Also known as Quartz
Surfacing, Engineered Stone combines the natural beauty of Quartz
stone and man-made composite. Quartz is one of the hardest
elements found in nature and can be compared with the strength of
diamonds. Engineered stone consists mainly of real rock.
Stone aggregate particles make up more than 90 percent of its mass.
Engineered stone is
more durable than the real thing and is available in dozens of
colors. Some colors mimic the real thing; others are pastel
hues straight off a designer's palette.
Engineered stone has
special properties that set it apart from the real thing. It
is made by combining the aggregate with resin and pigments in a
process that binds it permanently. Because the mix is uniform,
engineered stone has no fissures, veins, or other imperfections that
could compromise the strength of natural stone or make it hard to
match seams. It also means that your counter will match the
sample exactly. There's no need to sort through slabs to find
a favorite.
Generally,
engineered stone is non-porous, making it resistant to kitchen
spills and bacterial growth. The toughest engineered stones,
such as Silestone, Caesarstone, Cambria and LG Viatera are made from
quartz. They won't scratch or stain. These materials are maintenance free
and do not require any type of sealing. Others, derived from
marble and other stones, are softer, and may need sealing.
Caring for
Engineered Stone is easy. Regular household cleaners or warm
soapy water will keep your surfaces appearing brand new, always
maintaining a shine. |
